Link Building Through Article Marketing – 7 Must Know Tips

I have been working on my website for three years now. When I started, I had no inbound links. I was getting traffic from MSN and a little from Yahoo but none from Google.

Today most of my traffic comes from Google. As you know inbound links are important in the Google “algorithm.” It was part of Larry Page’s thesis when he started his search engine experiment.

I’ve tried a lot of different ways to build links. And, after three years, I’ve concluded that the best method is publishing articles through places like Ezinearticles and Isnare.

1. Keywords

Go to SEO Book.com. You’ll find a free keyword tool. Play around with it. Find some keywords that are popular to your subject area. Use them for topics. Work the keyword in a number of times in the article. Use it in the headline.

2. Titles

Article titles or headlines are critical. One of my first articles that I published with Ezine had a very bland title. It got very few views and was published very few times. Then I read Rosalind Gardner’s “Super Affiliate Handbook” and everything changed. She has a great piece on creating interesting article titles. She calls it “The ‘Secret’ Ingredient Every Article Needs.”

Use numerals in the titles. For example, “8 ways to…” or “7 tips to….” And use words like “avoid,” “how to,” “tips” or secrets”. You can probably find some sources on the internet with ideas on headline writing.

Creating snazzy titles is “must know” information so don’t neglect it.

3. Use Proper Grammar and Punctuation

You want webmasters to pick up your articles and post them on their websites and blogs. They may be turned off by bad grammar or incorrect punctuation. Your article will reflect on their site. So make it look good. Use Microsoft Word or WordPerfect and keep the spell checker and grammar checker on at all times.

4. Proofread

James Michener used to say he was not a great writer but he was a great proofreader. After your article is finished, print it out. It is much easier to spot errors on the printed page. Get a red pen. Read the article slowly and carefully. Pretend you are someone else. A competitor, for example. She would find errors in your text. You can do the same. Fix them.

5. Article Submission

There are hundreds of places to submit your article. My current favorites are Ezinearticles.com and Isnare.com.

Ezinearticles has a minimum word requirement of 250 but is very strict about its editorial guidelines. I have published articles at Ezinearticles.com and each article gets a PR (page rank) 2 from Google. This is good. Very good actually. And Ezinearticles is basically the Harvard Law Review of article publishing.

Isnare.com has a minimum word requirement but is much more relaxed editorially. I find I can publish more articles for my time with Isnare even with the higher word requirement. With Ezinearticles I am continually rewriting to meet their strict standards.

There are many other article repository sites and you can find them with a simple search on Google.

6. Distribution

Just getting the article published in a repository is only half the battle. Some webmasters will pick up your articles from the repositories. But, ideally, you want the broadest possible distribution for your article because that way more webmasters become aware of it and publish it.

One way to do that is through “article announcement lists.” These are mostly Yahoo Groups. You can find them through a search on Yahoo. David Viney also publishes a list on page 159 of his very fine book “Getting to the Top on Google.”

For my purposes I have found I get the broadest possible distribution when I publish at Isnare.com. For a small fee ($2.00 per piece) they send the article out to gazillions of sites. And, I start noticing the inbound links multiplying more rapidly. So I pay the $2.00 and feel it is worth the money.

There are other methods of achieving broad distribution. There is software that Rosalind Gardner recommends and claims to use herself that does the same thing. It is rather pricey but if you are writing a lot of articles maybe it is worth the money

7. Resource Box

This is the area after the article where you can put your info. The article is your “give” and the resource box is your “take” as they say at Ezinearticles. There is a whole technology on how to write a concise effective resource box to maximize your return. You can find some great articles on it at Ezinearticles.com. Be sure to include one of the main keywords from your site in your link’s “anchor text.”

Conclusion

Article marketing can generate massive numbers of inbound links. A nice side benefit is that they will also bring you traffic. It takes some time to learn but it is a solid link building and marketing strategy.

B2B Social Marketing on the Rise

“In America, you have the watches but no time. In Nairobi, we have the time but no watches.”

That’s a familiar quote I heard recently from “Evans,” an international student from Kenya who is currently enrolled at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He got me thinking about the economics of marketing in the U.S., and how the proliferation of social networks has influenced media consumption and business user engagement. Although it is rarely thought of in this context, the rise of social marketing is rooted in basic economic principles. When the price is “zero,” the laws of supply and demand often are ignored, but they still are relevant. Don’t forget another familiar quote: “There is no free lunch!”

Back to Basics—The Economics of ‘Free’

Remember those undergraduate days, waking up from an afternoon nap seated in a lecture hall, dazed and confused by a myriad of supply and demand curves compounded by explanations of elasticity and marginal utility? Well, all that stuff is still the foundation for business behavior today and will continue to be the underlying principles of the free market economy. While there may have been hype about the “chocolate rainmaker” (YouTube celebrity) and “twitters being quitters” (retention rate concerns), the basic economic principles remain essential to understanding current social marketing trends in business today. A couple of modifications to traditional variables can help explain the logic supporting the rise of marketing “freeconomics.” Here’s how it works in a free market.

Traditional laws of supply and demand state that increased prices are the result of decreased supply and/or increased demand; the inverse also is true. For example, with all other factors remaining constant, you can generally expect to negotiate lower mailing list prices when there is a greater supply of lists on the market and/or a decrease in the demand for list rental. This macroeconomic principle is based on perfect competition, so don’t jump the gun and expect to negotiate a 50-percent net-name arrangement on a highly targeted, niche response list of 5,000 names.

Putting the traditional list industry model aside, how does macroeconomic theory relate to social marketing when the price of those services is “zero”? First remember, there is no free lunch. The variable for price simply needs to be replaced with the opportunity cost of time, which in itself can have a wide range depending on who is most engaged in the process. Within the macroeconomic context of “price,” the opportunity cost of time generally will be lower as the supply of time is increased due to factors like unemployment or idle capacity. This makes the relative labor “price” more attractive and increases the demand for services that enable businesses to leverage those resources; it goes without mentioning that there are a lot of independent consultants out there trying to rule the blogosphere.

Explicitly stated, the economic downturn resulted in an increase in the supply of labor and a decrease in the average marketing budget. Therefore, companies and individuals are challenged once again with delivering more for less. Social networks, bookmarking services, free business listings and affiliate programs become more attractive when we have fewer “watches” and more time. The suppliers of these services, mostly in the form of online application service providers, benefit from the free labor and leverage the resulting assets (content) as a platform for contextually targeted advertising solutions and other innovative message delivery systems used to stimulate demand and add revenue.

Furthermore, the implications for search engine optimization (SEO) expand the value proposition to include getting noticed from higher positions on search engine results pages (SERPs). Bookmarking services provide external links that may be scored by search algorithms to increase a particular Web site’s ranking by Google and other major search engines. This is a key benefit to marketing professionals who have embraced the digital revolution, but it’s still not that easy to measure the ROI. Despite any claims that search rankings can be mastered by prioritizing domains for placing external links, an effective long-term strategy must recognize that SEO is a moving target-especially as personalized SERPs continue to evolve and take root. If that doesn’t leave you feeling out of control, then add in the fact that there are hundreds of social marketing sites, which are not all created equal.

This brings you back to the basics of direct marketing and defining your target market. The following social media summary will help you filter what makes the most sense for your business. Keep in mind that the targeted groups within a social network (e.g., LinkedIn) may be just as important the network(s) you choose.

There’s nothing wrong with a shotgun approach when shooting skeet (moving targets like search algorithms), and the same is true for connecting with your target market. Just be careful to avoid those services that point to their Web site with your site in their wrapper, as they rob your site of the fuel from external links, devalue your analytics and generally undermine your business. A best practice is to choose a service that uses a 301 redirect, indicating that the short URL referring link be moved to the long URL as the permanent address for your Web site. In contrast, a 302 redirect tells the search engine that your destination is temporary, and the service provider can subsequently take credit (SEO results) for the link—that’s bad.

The Lazy Woman’s Guide To Bum Article Marketing

The secret to making article writing pay, and pay well is not rocket science it is simply that you have to crank out as many articles as you can. I do not mean that you have to write nonsensical articles without any keyword research; but if you are aspiring to make over a $100 dollars a day within a month then you have to churn those articles out at a rate of more than two a day.

Writing Articles Quickly

If it takes you at least three hours to write an article then you have to learn my fast easy and achievable methods of speeding up your article writing. Even if you are writing from scratch you need to “up your game” so that you can write at least two articles an hour. You will never earn any real money without quantity. Certainly you will still require a few quality articles that you have researched and they can make you a large amount by being syndicated. For the most part it is quantity that you need.

The Main Money From Bum Article Writing Is From Quantity.

I know that that will shock some people, but unfortunately to drive traffic to your website you need masses of articles. Some lazy lady bum marketing techniques are rewriting articles. However I never recommend a straight rewriting of one article although it works as a technique and is a fast way of doing things it is not the smart way of doing things.

The smart way to write articles in quantity

The smart way of writing articles is limited by how fast you can type and no other factor. If you can type then you should be be able to produce three or four articles an hour, every hour.

Steps to Quantity writing.

1. Find three articles about your chosen subject. Do a google search for your main two keywords and that should reveal several potential sources of information.

2. Read the three articles you have chosen to replicate.

3. Write the main paragraph topics down as bullets points.

4. Close the original articles

5. Place those bullet points in the order that you want to write them.

6. Write your paragraphs from the top of your head from the information that you have assimilated.

By writing in this way your articles should flow well because they are your words. As you are writing your own words you are not plagiarizing the content of others, you have no problem with duplicate content, and also you are not using copyrighted material.

This method is Not an Excuse to write Crap Articles.

This is not a method that you can write completely crap articles not unless you want those articles to be consigned to complete oblivion. Remember that you want your article to be syndicated as much as possible. the more it appears around the web the more you become an authority.

It Is Not Enough to Have Web Presence You Need to Establish Authority in your Niche.

The days when a web presence was sufficient to drive traffic to your web site is long gone, today you need to be an authority figure and to that you need more than presence. Your web presence must count. However that does not mean that you have to agonize over every article and bite your nails down to the quick, it means that you have to learn to write good bum article marketing articles fast. The articles do not have to amazing, they are never going to be nominated for a Nobel prize!

The bum marketeer who is going to win in your niche is the one that cranks the most articles out and it is that simple. When you have learned to write faster than your competitors then you will get the most traffic. Within a month you should be earning $100 dollars a day, at least, each and every day. Of course once you get to that position you can outsource your articles. Job Done!
